Tunng have teamed up with the Belgium duo Soy Un Caballo (‘I am a horse’) for their newest record, a digital and gold 7” vinyl only release of Soy Un Caballo’s song ‘Robin’. On the A-side, Tunng do their quintessentially English version of the Belgian group’s delicate French lyrics and light musicianship, whilst the original appears on the flipside.

The groups met on tour in Belgium and France, and Soy Un Caballo requested that Tunng do a version of their new single. After some rough translation, Tunng made their English cover of the Belgian couple’s Latin-tinged composition, resulting in the forthcoming release.

It’s an interesting idea, and Tunng, in their inimitable fashion, manage to pull it off with some degree of competence, turning the wispy, romantic French lyrics into melancholy and wistful English.

Both versions float delicately in the subconscious, and both work in different ways, interestingly almost exclusively through the varying vocals – Sam Genders and Mike Lindsay of Tunng’s tone and accent have always worked in an indescribable and fascinating manner.

Tunng will be playing with Tinariwen on a collaborative tour on the following dates:

25th March – Bath Komedia
26th March – London Koko
27th March –Reading Town Hall
28th March – Birmingham The Rainbow Warehouse

They are apparently currently writing and recording for their fourth album, though will take some time off for summer festivals. See Tunng’s MySpace for more details.
