Piney Gir sixth album mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE

Cult singer-songwriter Piney Gir has been working the indie circuit for a while now, slowly introducing listeners to her world in her own unique and stylistic way. Her sixth album mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE seems to have arrived just in time for summer; filled with uplifting indie-pop ditties that are toe-tappingly catchy.

The album opens with Piney’s second single Gold Rules which is all about celebrating the unattainability of riches and how “you can’t take it with you anyway”. The track is overflowing with tasty, drilling bass lines and uplifting tones not far from the likes of She & Him’s happy/indie vibes.

The album continues to follow on with this theme of sparkly indie-pop throughout, with Piney’s stand-out American accent bringing in a wonderful element of individuality you won’t hear anywhere else.

Probably one of our favourite tracks on the album is ‘Yai Yai’ – a cracking feel good track you will catch yourself singing along to without even meaning to. All the while, still keeping that awesome fuzzy guitar distortion in, giving a Pixies-esque vibe to the track.

All in all, if you’re a fan of uplifting indie-pop with a hint of alternative rock, all the while feeling like you’re at some sort of 60s fairground, mR hYDE’S wILD rIDE won’t disappoint. Piney Gir has been honing her sound for a while now and it feels like with this album she’s nailed it.
