The Smoking Hearts kick off February UK Tour with free show in London

Kicking off their UK tour with a free show in London tonight, The Smoking Hearts will be showcasing their new vocalist Ben Mills, formerly of Essex hardcore band The Takeover.

Previous singer Rodd Lethal quit the band by text message last year, just as things were hotting up for the band following the release of their debut album Pride Of Nowhere which had received rave reviews from the likes of Kerrang! and NME.

Before auditions could take place, Ben Mills heard of the vacancy and soon emerged as a prime contender upon his first meeting with the rest of The Smoking Hearts. His credentials for the job received a huge boost when he drunkenly stumbled backwards into a baby’s push chair! Fortunately the push chair was empty at the time and no babies were harmed in the recruitment of the singer!

Mills joins drummer Matty Taylor, Bassist Calvin Roffey, Guitarists Nobba Green and Simon Barker in making up the current line up of The Smoking Hearts.

The Smoking Hearts will be playing at the following UK venues during February:

Introducing: The Indecent – New York’s ones to watch in 2011

Kicking up a fuss in their USA homeland, The Indecent comprise of triplets Bo, Emily and Madeline Brout born and raised in New York City, along with Canadian born drummer Nicholas Burrows. What makes this band stand out is that they are only sixteen years old and already a band to watch out for in 2011.

Having consumed a fine blend of Nirvana, Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath, Syd Barret era Pink Floyd and classic rock and punk at an early age The Indecent are now creating their own dynamic brew of rock and roll with classic New York flavour and attitude.

It was back in 2008 when the band caught the attention of producers Tom Sommer and Stuart Chatwood.  Sommer a former VP of A&R at Atlantic records, responsible for signing Hootie & The Blowfish and Duncan Sheik, recalls;

“What appealed to me is that they didn’t sound or look like kids playing a rock band in a TV movie, they were just this very dark, very poetic, grinding, riffing band who happened to be under 18. I didn’t think it was that big a deal, since they were about the same age Dave Davies was when he formed the Kinks, Paul Weller was when he formed the Jam, and George Harrison was when he joined the Beatles.”

The Indecent are currently brewing up a buzz at bars and clubs in the tri-state area and Los Angeles, and in late summer 2010 they independently released their debut CD, Her Screwed Up Head.  The album is produced by Sommer and engineered/mixed by Mark Dearnley (AC/DC, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul McCartney, Motorhead, The Damned).

The Indecent have digested everything they have ever heard or learned musically and are now regurgitating it in the very own version of NYC based metal grunge. This really is the future of rock music, now!

Check them out on this latest video Lucky Ones, which finds singer Emily in exceptional form somewhere between Kurt Cobain and Grace Slick.

Ozzfest 2010 comes to London’s O2 Arena

Ozzy Osbourne’s career has spanned an amazing five decades.  His popularity has never been in question since he spearheaded, what was to become, the heavy metal genre as charismatic lead vocalist of Black Sabbath.  The band formed in 1968 and released their eponymous album ‘Black Sabbath’ on Friday the 13th, February 1970.

The Ozzfest Festival was created in 1996 by Ozzy Osbourne’s wife and manager, Sharon Osbourne; and in 1998 Ozzfest first came to the UK.

Over the years Ozzfest has included some great line-ups including Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Slipknot, Incubus, Linkin Park and Disturbed.  Black Sabbath and Ozzy Osbourne have also played.

Following several concerts across the United States the Ozzfest 2010 comes to the UK for one show at London’s O2 Arena, before heading off to Israel for a final tour show in Tel Aviv.

The London Ozzfest 2010 concert is on 18th September but will include much more than shows from the Prince of Darkness, Ozzy Osbourne and other heavy rock protagonists.

Ozzfest 2010 will be the first UK show in over five years and will see Ozzy and co take over London’s O2 with a ‘Village Of The Damned’ including fairground rides, stalls and tattooists.  This will be the first indoor Ozzfest and for those followers of the legend that is Ozzy, this will be an event not to miss as this year, Ozzy has joined the tour!

Ozzy Osbourne will be supported on the main stage by Korn, Murderdolls and Skindred plus a special guest.  More acts will perform live on a second stage though nothing is currently confirmed.

Grammy Award-winners Korn need no introduction and will be flying in from the USA especially for the show to showcase songs from their forthcoming new album, ‘Korn III – Remember Who You Are’.

Korn guitarist, Munky was quoted on the Ozzfest website as saying:

“Ozzy is an absolute legend, mentor, and dear friend of mine, so it’s always an honour to perform on the same bill as him. We can’t wait!”

Murderdolls will rise from the dead after a six year absence, while Welsh raga-punks Skindred will perform their unique blend of metal, punk, rap and reggae.

This year Ozzy Osbourne published his book ‘I Am Ozzy’ and released his tenth solo studio album, ‘Scream’, all of which have achieved Top 40 Chart success in the UK.

Inner City Dwellers – Rap Metal for Disaffected Britian

Inner City Dwellers
Inner City Dwellers

London based Inner City Dwellers are a new voice socially-disaffected Britain.  Their music fuses rap, punk & nu-metal with their mix of abrasive, metallic guitar riffs and articulate, ‘estate-culture’ rapping.

With the emphasis for their first EP and album being on their ‘broken Britain’ stance, they are readily able to connect with the younger generation of music consumers; their music is pushing anti-establishment messages in the way that Rage Against The Machine, Discharge & The Sex Pistols have done before them.

Frontman Patrick Williams is perhaps best known in the drum n bass scene as MC Rage.  Having toured internationally for ten years as tour MC Rage for the likes of Goldie and Pendulum, Patrick Williams has most recently been the resident live and DJ MC for Chase & Status.  He cites influences from Gallows, Rage Against The Machine and The Clash to Plan B, Mos Def, Steel Pulse and Lowkey.

Musically, Inner City Dwellers offer up a combination of solid metal riffs, stadium-rock hooks and dreamy soundscapes.  Sam, Chris, Jake and Stephan are all graduates of the Academy of Contemporary Music (ACM) in Guildford and they combine perfectly to create a sound that is tight, solid and full of energy.

Following a hugely successful appearance at Manchester’s In The City festival, the band landed the support slot on Roni Size’s sold-out UK tour.  A trip to Europe to play at the Nokia and T-Mobile-sponsored SPRINGeight festival in Austria alongside The Streets was followed by another to Poland for an appearance at the Boogie Brain festival.  ICD continue to sell out venues like the Underworld (Camden), the Boileroom (Guildford) and the Peel (Kingston) and show clear potential, building upon their fanbase as they grow.

A brand new EP will be released in Spring 2010 and will feature guest appearances from Plan B.  At the same time, the band will shortly be introducing their own club night in London.  Run in conjunction with their management company, “LONDON RIOT” will be a weekly night aimed at students and young people.  As well as giving the band an opportunity to play and ‘rehearse live’, there will be guest DJs and special guest performances.

Inner City Dwellers aim to use this to further increase industry and consumer awareness of their music.  The first night is scheduled for Tuesday 18th May.

Inner City Dwellers deliver a fresh and original style of rap metal that will excite all rock and urban music fans.  The positive and socially-aware lyrical content further heightens the band’s current relevance, charm and appeal.

Inner City Dwellers are certainly one to look out for in 2010

Lostprophets – It’s Not the End of the World – new single

LostprophetsIt’s Not the End of the World, But I Can See It from Here

Since forming in 1997 Lostprophets have sold over one million albums and built a loyal following in the UK.  Their music blends powerful driving heavy rock / nu metal guitars and vocals with a lively and commerical sounding pop sensibility.

Lostprophets are most commonly termed nu metal and post-grunge though their music is musc richer and diverse than that.

The first single from the new album, It’s Not the End of the World, But I Can See It from Here, was played for the first time on BBC Radio 1 on August 19th. It gets its official release on Monday 12th October.

The new single is a familiar Lostprophets sound mixing up nu metal / hard rock of Linkin Park and Faith No More with softer sing-a-long pop tones reminiscent of The Kaiser Chiefs.  It is taken from their fourth studio album, The Betrayed, which is due for release in January 2010.
