Ministry of Sound – Anthems Drum & Bass

Ministry Of Sound's Anthems: Drum & Bass
Ministry Of Sound's Anthems: Drum & Bass

Drum & Bass is the latest Ministry of Sound release in their most popular series to date – Anthems.

While there is a bassbin full of D n B compilations already flooding the market, this isn’t a bad place to start for a newcomer wanting to learn more about the genre or a fan of drum & bass wanting a 3 CD mix covering genre defining classic cuts, an eclectic spread of more mainstream tunes, and a selection of contemporary artists currently breathing new life and scope into the genre.

This anthology includes classics such as the Jungle-tastic ‘Inner CityGoldie, ‘Super Sharp Shooter’ by The Ganja Kru, ‘Valley Of The Shadows’ by Origins Unknown, ‘Bad Ass’ by Micky Finn & Aphrodite, alongside the best of the 1990s Jazz n Bass Circles’ from Adam F, ‘Pulp Fiction’ by Alex Reece and the ground-breaking ‘Brown Paper Bag’ by Roni Size & Reprazent.

This crowd pleasing album doesn’t stop there, disc two presents us with eclectic selection of the genre’s street music that resonated its way into the mainstream; igniting us all with memories of hit anthems such as ‘Shake Your Body’ from Shy FX, ‘LK’ Marky and the infectious ‘Barcelona’ from D.Kay & Epsilon, before we move into rollers including the likes of Dilinja, Pendulum, Ram Trilogy and E-Z Rollers.

Evidence that Drum & Bass has gone full circle is prevalent on disc 3; a new generation of talent has emerged with tracks from artists like Chase & Status, Sub Focus, Wilkinson and DJ Fresh who have taken the Drum & Bass sound back to the mainstream.  These artists are a force not to be reckoned with, not only do they dominate the UK chart each week, take over our radio waves and headline the biggest music festivals around the world, they also have a strong presence in Ibiza, an island that is dominated by House and Techno music – Drum & Bass is back and it’s bigger than ever!

Ministry Of Sound's Anthems: Drum & Bass

Anthems is Ministry of Sound’s most successful series, that has so far been a glaring omission, so for this edition we’re taking on Drum & Bass.

This exclusive compilation draws together, for the first time, the key anthems, producers and artists that helped the music evolve from the streets of Britain’s inner cities into a worldwide scene that, today, still hasn’t stopped moving forward.

This 3 CD anthology of the biggest D&B tracks of all time include classics such as Goldie, Adam F, Roni Size & Reprazent, The Ganja Kru, Origins Unknown, Micky Finn & Aphrodite, DJ SS alongside mainstream tracks such as ‘Shake Your Body‘ from Shy FX, ‘LK‘ by DJ Marky and the infectious ‘Barcelona‘ from D.Kay & Epsilon plus likes of Dilinja, Pendulum, Ram Trilogy and E-Z Rollers.

Finally it’s time to bring the genre up-to-date with a selection of modern-day d ‘n’ b masterpieces including Chase & Status, High Contrast, Sub Focus, Wilkinson, Sigma and DJ Fresh.

Dreadzone Announce New Album & UK Tour

Dreadzone - New Album & UK Tour
Dreadzone - New Album & UK Tour

Dreadzone have announced they will be releasing their new album Eye On The Horizon on 26th April 2010.

The new album sees Dreadzone continue to create great dub dance pop music, a style that has helped them to become celebrated as one of the UK’s original dance music pioneers , with a style that has since spawned many sub genres.

MCing and reggae vocals partner the mix of live guitars, electronic beats and dub bass to perfection. The album features iconic samples (notably, the legendary theme from Long Good Friday on Gangster, a spoken word piece from Woody Guthrie and Dennis Brown’s Greensleeves classic Whip Them Jah on American Dread) all of which compliment the bass and beat heavy Dreadzone style perfectly.

The Dreadzone story began with Alan McGee‘s Creation Records and their first groundbreaking album 360, continuing with major waves their seminal 1995 album Second Light picking up support from John Peel (who included the album in his top ten favourite albums of all time).

The top 20 hit from that album Little Britain has since gone on to acquire classic status. Five critically acclaimed albums later they are set to remind people why the Dreadzone sound is still very much a part of the musical landscape of this country.

The core members Greg Dread, original bassmaster Leo Williams, the unmistakable MC Spee, legendary Studio One vocalist Earl 16 alongside Chris Compton on guitar and Chris Oldfield on technology make up the new line up.

Dreadzone’s influence extends not only out into the current scene as one of the pioneers of dub based music in this country, but rewinding to back in the day as the rhythm section of Big Audio Dynamite in the 1980’s. Their roots are embedded in the history of West London sound clash and with a drum and bass partnership of 25 years this year Leo and Greg are still rolling strong and rocking the nation with their distinctive rhythms.

“A welcome return from the defenders of bass! Dreadzone are back with their new album ‘Eye on the Horizon’ and as usual they draw fast and shoot straight to the heart of the matter: music to move your mind and your feet”
Don Letts
